If you spend any time around Cru, you’ll figure out that we spend a lot of time focused on two things in particular— the gospel and community.
The Gospel
Cru is not a place for the deserving, but for the undeserving. You don’t have to “have it together” to be part of our community. If you look closely, you will see that we are real people with real problems. That is why we talk so much about the “gospel”! Because the “good news” or “gospel” message of Christianity is this—Jesus Christ died not for good people, but for bad ones. He died for sinners, to bring us into relationship with God. And the rest of the good news is this: As we trust in Him, we find that though Christ accepts us as we are, he doesn’t leave us that way. He’s changing us, from the inside out, into the kinds of people He wants us to be.
Community
Friends shape you. The person you are when you leave Duke will be greatly influenced by the communities you choose to be part of during your time here. With that in mind, Cru seeks to be a ministry that helps students sharpen and encourage one another to follow after Jesus and set their hearts on Him. We’ve found that as students follow Christ together, in community, significant growth and development take place in individual lives. We have a lot of fun together in Cru, and we have formed friendships with one another that we believe will last a lifetime. But what is most important about those great friends is the way they point us to Jesus and remind us to trust in Him.
